Langya Mountain – The Drunken Pavilion
“Though not yet an old man, one still needs to wander around with a walking stick everywhere;
If one can’t get drunk, it would be a pity to let down the beautiful mountains and forests here;
In a hundred years of life, how many wonderful sceneries and pleasures of music and wine are casually cast aside;
This old man has been famous for thousands of years. Just ask how many heroes and outstanding figures among you have ever woken up;
Eight hundred years have passed since the old man left, yet the land of intoxication still remains;
Walking six or seven li along the mountain path, the pavilion’s shadow is not alone.
Lord Ouyang was intoxicated by the scenery that ‘all around Chuzhou are mountains’. He lingered in Langya Mountain. The monk Zhixian, who respected and admired Lord Ouyang, built a pavilion in the mountain to add to the fun of his mountain tour. Lord Ouyang named the pavilion ‘Zuiweng’ (the Old Drunkard) and wrote the famous prose ‘Record of the Zuiweng Pavilion’.
